Breast cancer research has received a welcome boost after Century 21 Wentworth Real Estate turned pink for the Cancer Council’s Pink Ribbon fundraising campaign in October.
For the third year running, staff at the company’s Frankston office last month joined all Century 21 offices throughout Australia in swapping their famous gold jackets for pink – as well as their ties, scarfs, websites, signboards and marketing collateral. They also held a breast cancer morning tea and lunch, at which they donated to the appeal, and placed Cancer Council products for sale at reception so members of the public could also support the fundraiser.
Their efforts helped raise more than $150,000 for the appeal, easily eclipsing the record $140,000 raised last year.
It is estimated that every day about 50 Australian women are diagnosed with breast or a gynaecological cancer, and one in eight women will be diagnosed within their lifetime. With no proven method of prevention or cure for this disease, charitable donations are imperative to raise awareness and to fund more support services, prevention programs and vital cancer research.
