MatchWorks proves the perfect fit for determined jobseeker

July 11, 2016

Connecting with MatchWorks Frankston has given jobseeker Tom McGann a chance to showcase his passion for computers.

Tom, 22, was born with a neuromuscular disorder and uses a wheelchair. He joined MatchWorks as a jobseeker in 2014 after completing his secondary schooling and TAFE Diplomas in web development and network engineering.

MatchWorks worked with Tom to identify opportunities to follow his passion for Information Technology, and he secured a work trial at Dandenong’s Wooranna Park Primary School.

Tom was more than happy to travel by taxi to and from the school, and enjoyed helping gifted students develop their computer skills and learning.

The work trial soon turned into ongoing employment, and Tom has become a valued member of staff at Wooranna Park.

Tom said MatchWorks was up to the task of finding him a job.

“I felt as though I posed a challenge to the consultants at MatchWorks given that my disability does not allow me to accept a job that requires physical labour,” he said.

“I found that they were able to tailor a position to my needs and skills, and effectively link me to potential employers.”

MatchWorks delivers job-active and disability employment services contracts on behalf of the Federal Government and has been part of the Frankston community since 2013.
