Lisa’s taking care of business

Lisa Medhurst is lively, lovely and smart, smart, smart.  Her business, Lisa’s Lacies Plus Size Lingerie, is a rip-roaring success and not only because her garments are pretty, seductive and fit to form, but because they are made with the understanding that not every woman is (or wants to be) a size 10.

Lisa’s Lacies is for real women who want to look and feel gorgeous – think bras (including maternity, sports and plunge), lingerie (camisoles and corsets), briefs, sleepwear and the Lisa’s Lacies clothing label just for starters.

Lisa began unpicking bras and learning how to make patterns from home 21 years ago. The rest is Australian garment production success history. Hard work and focus has seen Lisa’s Lacies grow tenfold.  Her shop floor in Seaford is about 1500sq m and Lisa has just signed the deal of a lifetime with the Double Divas’ Brilliant Bras for Beautiful Women brand in the US. She already exports to Asia, the UK and the States.

“It’s very exciting; Double Divas will begin stocking Lisa’s Lacies in over 100 of their Livi Rae stores across America in 2017.  Next year is going to be big.  I am back in Dallas in February, so stay tuned for an update then,” she explains.

With about 90 awards for business – including Woman of the Year – and receiving an export grant from Frankston City Council in 2015, this business powerhouse still finds time to give back to the community.  Lisa’s Lacies collects donated second-hand bras and forwards them to the Uplift Fiji Project, which distributes them to the local ladies.

It is also at the forefront of mastectomy bra fittings. “We have a separate private pink and gold room where clients can feel safe and cared for,” says Lisa, who also devotes her time to several other charities.

It would seem that what goes around comes around - and that’s what taking care of business is really all about, isn’t it?
